Bob and Marty Hamill, who entertain six mornings a week at the
Blackwood Breakfast Variety Show in Pigeon Forge, TN, were presented
with the highest honor a ventriloquist can receive at the 34th
International VentHaven Ventriloquist Convention: The W.S. Berger
Distinguished Service Award. W.S. Berger was the President of the
International Brotherhood of Ventriloquists and founder of the VentHaven
Museum, the only one of its kind in the world. The museum
sponsors the annual convention.
Mark Wade, the Executive
Director for the convention, said, “This award is given to
ventriloquists who have excelled not only in the art of
ventriloquism, but in the way it is presented. Bob and Marty Hamill
are overdue for this presentation.” Bob and Marty have been goodwill
ambassadors for the art of ventriloquism for decades.
In his
teens, Bob performed free shows for local hospitals, retirement
hospitals and the USO. He later became an entertainer on a cruise
ship, where he met Marty – the ship’s nurse. Soon after, recognizing
her talent for comedy, he made her a part of the act. When stopped
at different ports of call, they would often bring their puppets
into the countries they visited and entertain at orphanages or
hospitals in the area. Bob and Marty have been part of the
Fee/Hedrick Family Entertainment Group since 1998. They started at
the Comedy Barn and joined the Blackwoods five years ago. “We are
living the dream,” stated Bob. “We are with one of the most
inspirational groups of all time, we have the greatest audiences,
and we’re finished at noon.” |

Bob is about to launch the Pigeon Forge version of the Bob Hamill Variety
Show. “It will be a show case for entertainers who need a place to hone
their art,” said Bob. “It was so important in my early career to have a
place to perform; we played anywhere people needed entertainment.
Entertainers need places where they can be bad before they get good. I want
to give young and older performers the chance to be in front of the
microphone. Details of the Variety Show will be announced soon.”

Local Entertainers Appeared At 2008 International Ventriloquists
Convention
Local entertainers, Bob and Marty Hamill appeared at the 2008 Ventriloquist
in Fort Mitchell, KY.
With a new type of ConVENTion performance, Bob and Marty Hamill were the
first act of the ConVENTion with their tribute to Carol Burnett. Marty was
able to emulate Burnett's famous cleaning lady character, and her similar
appearance to the character was uncanny. Bob played the bumbling Tim Conway
role. The audience was in hysterics as they appreciated something out
of the ordinary. You can see Marty and Bob's act for yourself at the
Blackwood Breakfast Variety Show.
